This December we had the opportunity to visit Natural Bridge Caverns located right outside of San Antonio, Texas. My step-daughter was visiting from Maryland and we wanted to do something fun and special. Boy were we right in deciding to make it an afternoon at Natural Bridge Caverns... I know, I know... you are probably wondering how much there could actually be to do at such a place; well, there are a ton of things to do. And the best part is that pretty much everything is family-friendly.
Here are FIVE reasons you should visit Natural Bridge Caverns:
Reason #1 -Duh - THE CAVERNS!!! Ha! Now, I was a bit worried about visiting the caverns with Baby Miss, because she tends to be afraid of the dark. But, there was no reason for that fear, as every part of the cavern was brightly lit, with a ton of railings and assistance for everyone.
The caverns were so much fun and really very educational. The kids had a blast walking around and the tour guide had so much knowledge that she was able to answer pretty much every question thrown at her. Reason #2 - Canopy Challenge - If you have never tried a Canopy Challenge I highly suggest it. The Canopy Challenge at Natural Bridge Caverns is a multi-level course that is built for kids and adults. Each person is harnessed in and has 30 minutes to grapple their way to the top of the 60-foot course. Each section is made to test your agility, balance, and strength through 47 fun obstacles. Baby Miss was allowed to go on, but she was a bit too afraid, so they brought her back to me. Meanwhile, Hubby, my Step-Daughter, my brother, Little Man, and Little Miss worked their way through the course. The best part is that at the bottom of the structure is a small Canopy Kids Course that is made for toddlers and young kids :) Reason #3 - Zip Lines... The kids were a bit too small for the zip lines, but Hubby, my brother, and step-daughter all had a blast on them. The Ziplines start at the top of the Canopy Challenge and take you to another structure and then back. Talk about exhilarating fun, right? Reason #4 - Gem & Fossil Mining - There is a section at Natural Bridge Caverns where you can actually mine for gems and fossils. All you have to do is purchase a bag of mining 'rough' and then dump it into a screen tray in the trough of water. Then watch to see if you come up with any gems or fossils. You can choose from Gem & Mineral bags, Fossil bags and Arrowhead bags. After discovering your gems and minerals, use the identification charts to accurately identify exactly what you have found. Reason #5 -The AMAZEn' Ranch Roundup is a great way to get everyone in the family moving, running, and racing to finish. When we went in December we were given a punch card to find each of the reindeer's and each of us went on our way to see who would finish first. It was a total BLAST of a time! In the end, the best part of visiting Natural Bridge Caverns was the family time. We were able to put down our phones and just have a blast laughing, playing, and learning!
