As a Prek teacher, former Kindergarten teacher and mom, I’ve long been a fan of Doreen Cronin‘s books. I can remember sitting on the rainbow rug of my first kindergarten classroom reading “Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type.” The kids enjoyed the silly farm animals and pictures in the Caldecott Awarded book, and I loved that the cows formed a type of union and went on strike until their demands were met. My own children have been fans of the cows and ducks and farmer for years as well, and we own many of Cronin’s other books, including “Duck for President.” When I heard that “Duck for President” would be performed at The Magik Theatre I knew me and MJ would be attending the show. Now, MJ has never attended a play or movie, but I’ve been on many field trips to The Magik Theatre over the years and I know how child-friendly the shows are. “Duck for President” is perfect for kids of all ages, and it’s just in time for the upcoming election. The animals from Click, Clack, Moo are back, and this time Duck decides to run for office to avoid working on the farm. Being in charge isn’t as easy as he thought it would be. It’s the most fun your family will ever have learning about the Democratic process! Cronin’s “Duck for President” has been adapted by James E. Grote with music and lyrics by George Howe. Directed by Frances Limoncelli, the play opens this Saturday. Opening Day Festivities will be held at the 2:00 and 7:00 shows. Guests can show up an hour before this Saturday’s shows for crafts, games, and more! You may even get to meet get to meet the playwright. The play will be at The Magik Theatre through November 6th and tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children, and $12 for educators.
